The Build
- 01
Build the box
Cut a four-sided open box deep enough to hide the lower mirror at an angle. Paint every interior surface dead matte black so only the LED ring reads.

Set the mirrors parallel
Mount one mirror to the lid facing down and one to the base facing up, as close to perfectly parallel as you can. The tiny offset is what makes the reflections march off into infinity.

Ring the gap with light
Run the warm LEDs around the inner lip between the mirrors. Keep them dim — the darker the tunnel, the deeper it reads.

Skirt and stage it
Drop the box into the ground or a platform, skirt the edges in black fabric, and frame the opening with stone or grave dressing so guests lean right over the void.
Safety First
Mirrors crack — use shatter-resistant acrylic mirror if children will be near the opening, and never leave the pit uncovered where someone could step in.
