The premise

An elderly heiress is killed by her husband who wants control of her fortunes. What ensues is an all-out murder spree as relatives and friends attempt to reduce the inheritance playing field, complicated by some teenagers who decide to camp out in a dilapidated building on the estate.

Mario Bava's savage Italian giallo follows the bloody chaos that erupts around a lakeside estate after its wealthy owner meets a sudden violent end. Competing heirs and opportunists descend, each with their own murderous agenda, while an unlucky group of teenagers stumbles into the carnage. Bava orchestrates an escalating body count with gleeful brutality, delivering kills so inventive they would go on to inspire a generation of slasher filmmakers. The film is widely regarded as one of the most influential proto-slashers ever committed to celluloid.
