Almost Human1974
“There is a reason for every living creature ...with one exception.”
Directed by Umberto Lenzi
The premise
A psychotic small-time criminal realizes that the everyday robberies, rapes and murders he commits aren't profitable enough, so he figures to hit the big time by kidnapping the daughter of a rich man.
Horror Vault's take
Set against the seedy underbelly of 1970s Italy, Almost Human follows a volatile, small-time criminal whose escalating appetite for violence and easy money drives him toward an audacious kidnapping scheme targeting a wealthy man's daughter. Tomas Milian delivers a ferociously unhinged performance as one of European crime-horror's most repellent villains, while Henry Silva pursues him with cold determination. This Italian genre hybrid sits at the brutal crossroads of giallo sensibility and crime thriller, drenched in the nihilistic spirit of its era. Viewers with a taste for Euro-cult transgression will find it relentlessly uncomfortable.
