The premise
Secluding herself in an island mansion in the Mediterranean with her servants and nurses, the wealthy Flora "Sissy" Goforth prepares for her impending death -- and she isn't the only one who's waiting. Known for his attraction to the dying rich, poet Chris Flanders ingratiates himself with the wilting Sissy. Although her friend explains Flanders' "Angel of Death" nature to her, Sissy embraces the vulture-like Flanders.
Horror Vault's take
A fading, fabulously wealthy woman retreats to her Mediterranean island fortress as death draws ever closer — and an uninvited stranger arrives who seems to have a peculiar gift for appearing at the bedsides of the dying rich. The tension between these two larger-than-life personalities crackles beneath the blazing sun, wrapped in a dreamlike, theatrical atmosphere that blurs the line between desire and doom. Based on a Tennessee Williams play, the film is a slow, strange meditation on power, vulnerability, and the hunger that circles those at life's edge.
