The premise
In NATO-occupied Kosovo, a little girl writes an essay for the United Nations about her father who has gone missing. Meanwhile, the girl's grandfather becomes increasingly paranoid of the unseen threats that lurk in the dark.

Set against the fractured landscape of NATO-occupied Kosovo, Darkling weaves a war drama together with creeping dread as a young girl searches for meaning in her missing father's absence. While she commits her hopes to paper for UN officials, her grandfather becomes consumed by a growing terror of something unseen lurking just beyond the light. The film uses the horrors of post-conflict life as fertile ground for something altogether more primal, blurring the line between the traumas of history and a more ancient, shadowy menace. It is a slow-burn mood piece that trusts atmosphere over spectacle.
