When a young woman pays what she expects to be a brief courtesy visit to her late fiancé's mother, she finds herself trapped in a crumbling country estate ruled by a woman whose grief has curdled into terrifying fanaticism. The film belongs firmly to the 'hagsploitation' tradition, with a committed lead performance anchoring an increasingly suffocating atmosphere. What begins as social discomfort escalates into genuine, nail-biting menace as religious extremism and maternal obsession collide. Escape, it turns out, is far easier to imagine than to achieve.
