The premise
When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the "Satanic Panic" of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town's sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported "supernatural activity" triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.

Set against the fevered backdrop of late-1980s America, Hysteria! follows a ragtag high school metal band who seize on their town's occult obsession to reinvent themselves — with dangerous results. What begins as a savvy social climb through shock value and leather jackets quickly spirals as real violence and disappearances blur the line between manufactured myth and genuine menace. The community's mounting paranoia turns the town into a pressure cooker, and the band finds themselves at the center of a witch hunt they may have accidentally conjured. It's a sharp, unsettling look at how fear can become its own monster.
