The premise

The first manned expedition to Mars is invaded by an unknown life form, which stows away on the rescue ship.

Horror Vault's take

When a rescue mission departs Mars, the crew soon discovers they are not alone — something has come aboard, and the ship's corridors offer nowhere to hide. This lean, efficient 1950s creature feature traps a small group of astronauts in an ever-shrinking vessel as an unstoppable Martian terror hunts them deck by deck. Shot in stark black and white, the film builds dread through tight spaces and dwindling options rather than elaborate special effects. Often cited as an influential forerunner of later claustrophobic sci-fi horror, it remains a taut and entertaining slice of classic genre filmmaking.
