“Cheryl is a lovely girl... but to George, she's a living doll.”
Directed by Paul Bartel
The premise
In the sleaziest corner of Los Angeles, the King Edward Hotel has a new arrival in the form of Cheryl, a runaway teen. She's hoping to put her life back together but somewhere in the musty halls of the King Edward lurks another guest — who just loves to chop people apart!
Horror Vault's take
A teenage runaway seeks refuge in a crumbling Los Angeles flaphouse, only to find that the King Edward Hotel's eccentric residents are far more dangerous than the streets she fled. Director Paul Bartel's early cult oddity blends grindhouse sleaze with dark comedy and a genuinely sinister mystery lurking behind every locked door. As Cheryl tries to piece her life together, the hotel's decaying walls close in around her — and someone among the guests has a taste for blood. It's a grimy, offbeat chiller that sits somewhere between exploitation and arthouse unease.
