Shrill Cries of Summer2008
“Can you believe it?”
Directed by Ataru Oikawa
The premise
Early summer, Keiichi had just moved to a remote mountain village. As he becomes close friends with a group of girls, he was enjoying his life in the village. However when he starts to become suspicious that his friends may be deeply involved in successive murders that occur every summer, the situation around Keiichi gradually starts to turn into something more sinister.
Horror Vault's take
When a teenage boy relocates to a secluded mountain village, he quickly falls in with a warm circle of local girls — but the idyllic summer charm begins to crack as a pattern of seasonal killings comes to light. Suspicion creeps in as Keiichi wonders whether those closest to him might be hiding something far darker than rural tradition. What starts as a coming-of-age drama quietly curdles into a web of paranoia and dread, where the line between innocence and culpability is dangerously blurred.
