Set within the oppressive walls of a remote psychiatric clinic catering to wealthy women, this Italian giallo-slasher hybrid turns the institution itself into a hunting ground. A masked killer moves through the corridors picking off patients and staff, while the cast of disturbed residents and suspicious orderlies keeps the identity of the murderer frustratingly out of reach. Director Fernando Di Leo wraps the bloodshed in a layer of Euro-sleaze atmosphere and gothic décor, giving the film a distinctly lurid personality. Klaus Kinski lends his unsettling screen presence to a story that blends whodunit tension with exploitation-era excess.
