The premise
A young woman is invited by her girlfriend, who lives in an English country mansion, to stay there with her. The estate, however, isn't quite what it seems--and neither is the friend who issued the invitation.

A quiet invitation to an English country mansion quickly takes on an uneasy edge in this understated British psychological horror from 1974. Angela Pleasence delivers a memorably eerie performance as the hostess whose genteel façade conceals something deeply disturbing beneath. Director José Larraz builds tension through atmosphere and character study rather than explicit shocks, letting the crumbling estate and its strange rhythms do much of the unsettling work. What begins as a social visit gradually reveals itself to be something far more dangerous.
