The premise
A rogue scientist near a small desert town arouses the suspicion of the town's doctor when his lab assistant is found dead from a case of acromegaly, which took only four days to develop. As the doctor investigates, aided by the scientist's new female assistant, they discover that something is devouring local cattle and humans in increasingly large quantities.

In the sun-baked desert Southwest, a small-town doctor's curiosity is piqued when a grotesquely disfigured corpse turns up near a secretive scientist's remote laboratory. Something vast and hungry is prowling the arid landscape, leaving little behind of the livestock — and people — it encounters. Partnering with the scientist's sharp new assistant, the doctor races to uncover the truth before whatever is out there grows too large to stop. Tarantula is a quintessential 1950s creature feature that earns its reputation as one of the genre's most effective entries.
