The premise
Townspeople of a small English village begin to die in a series of horrible accidents, and a Scotland Yard inspector arrives to investigate a mysterious local medium who records conversations with the dead.

In a fog-laden English village, a string of inexplicable deaths draws a Scotland Yard detective into the orbit of a brooding, reclusive medium with a disturbing fixation on communing with the dead. At the centre of the mystery lurks a sinister black cat whose presence seems inextricably linked to the carnage. Italian genre maestro Lucio Fulci brings his distinctly dreamlike dread to this loose Poe-inspired tale, favouring mood and menace over conventional thrills. Fans of slow-burn European horror will find plenty to savour in its gothic atmosphere and unsettling psychic undertones.
