The Last Warning1928
“Who killed John Woodford?”
Directed by Paul Leni
The premise
A producer decides to reopen a theater, that had been closed five years previously when one of the actors was murdered during a performance, by staging a production of the same play with the remaining members of the original cast.
Horror Vault's take
When a bold producer decides to resurrect a cursed stage production — the very same play during which an actor was killed years before — he reassembles the surviving original cast inside the long-shuttered theater. What begins as an ambitious revival quickly spirals into dread as the company discovers that whatever haunted that stage may never have left. This late-silent-era chiller wraps a whodunit mystery inside creaking backstage shadows and mounting paranoia. Fans of atmospheric old-dark-house mysteries will find plenty to savor in its brooding theatrical setting.
