Victorian London's Limehouse district is gripped by terror as a string of brutal murders sends the public into a frenzy, with rumours swirling that a mythical creature — the Golem — is the only explanation for such savagery. Scotland Yard inspector John Kildare is assigned to the case, a man with his own secrets and something to prove. Running parallel is the trial of a young music-hall actress whose fate may be tangled with the killings in ways no one yet understands. Flashbacks, theatricality, and fog-drenched streets combine into a richly layered Victorian whodunit with genuine menace.
