The premise
A shaman's family learn that their goddess is supposedly controlling one of them. However, their lives take a frightening turn when they realise the goddess has nothing to do with the possession.
Horror Vault's take
Set in the rural highlands of Thailand, this faux-documentary follows a film crew embedded with a family of shamans as strange and increasingly violent behaviour overtakes one of their own. What begins as an intimate portrait of indigenous spiritual practice soon curdles into something far darker and more desperate. Director Na Hong-jin crafts a suffocating sense of dread rooted in authentic folk belief, where the line between sacred ritual and horrifying reality dissolves completely. Fans of slow-burn possession horror will find this one genuinely hard to shake.
