The Mole People1956
“...a savage civilization a million years old, raging with blood-lusting fury!”
Directed by Virgil W. Vogel
The premise
A party of archaeologists discovers the remnants of a five millennia-old mutant Sumerian civilization living beneath a glacier atop a mountain in Mesopatamia.
Horror Vault's take
When a team of archaeologists follows a strange trail beneath a Mesopotamian glacier, they stumble upon something that defies all modern understanding — a mutant Sumerian society that has endured for five thousand years in total isolation underground. Cut off from sunlight and the march of history, this subterranean civilization has evolved in deeply unsettling ways, sustained by rituals and a rigid social order that the surface-world intruders threaten simply by arriving. The explorers must navigate an alien culture armed with creatures bred for darkness, where escape seems as impossible as the discovery itself. Part pulp adventure and part creature feature, this 1950s genre gem delivers the uncanny pleasures of classic Universal-era horror with a sci-fi twist.
