The premise
An artist grows distant from his new wife as an irrational fear of premature burial consumes him.
Horror Vault's take
In the fog-laden world of Victorian England, a tormented artist becomes increasingly consumed by his morbid terror of being buried alive — a fear so overpowering it begins to poison every corner of his life. As his obsession deepens, he retreats further from his devoted wife, constructing elaborate contingencies against his worst nightmare. Roger Corman's adaptation of the Poe story drips with Gothic atmosphere, anchored by Ray Milland's compellingly unraveling performance. What begins as psychological portrait slowly draws the audience into a world where the line between rational dread and madness grows dangerously thin.
