The premise

Jack is a children's author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his big break rapidly turns into his big breakdown, as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear.

Horror Vault's take

A children's author who has gone deep down the rabbit hole of Victorian serial killer research finds himself too terrified to leave his own flat — convinced, against all reason, that a murderer is coming for him. When his long-suffering agent engineers what could finally be his big professional break, the outside world proves far more chaotic and threatening than his imagination prepared him for. Simon Pegg delivers a gloriously unhinged solo turn as a man at war with his own mind, his laundry, and the very concept of leaving the house. Equal parts psychological character study and jet-black comedy, the film mines genuine dread from the absurdity of anxiety taken to its logical extreme.
