The premise

Has someone ever handed you a movie, not telling you one thing about it, only telling you to watch it. What if that tape was the personal home video of two sociopaths on a killing spree? This is their home movie, for their eyes-only. This is August Underground's Penance. The third and final film in the AU franchise directed by Fred Vogel and starring Cristie "Crusty" Whiles. Penance shows the dark decline of the two nameless killers from the previous films as they continue to videotape their madness on their path to destruction.

Horror Vault's take

The third and final entry in Fred Vogel's notorious August Underground series drops viewers into the deteriorating world of two unnamed sociopaths, presented entirely as their own self-shot home video. There is no narrative safety net here — the found-footage format strips away any comfortable distance between the audience and the on-screen atrocities. As the killers spiral further into depravity, the film functions less as traditional horror and more as an endurance test in humanizing the monstrous. Penance is a pitch-black conclusion to one of extreme horror's most uncompromising franchises.

Content: Extreme Graphic Violence, Gore And Splatter, Simulated Torture, Deeply Disturbing Imagery, No Conventional Narrative Resolution
