The premise

Sunnydale looks like your average California town, but it sits on a mystical hotspot that draws every vampire, demon, and monster imaginable — and the only thing standing between the town and annihilation is a teenage girl named Buffy Summers. Armed with superhuman strength, a sharp wit, and a tight-knit circle of misfit friends, Buffy must balance the crushing weight of destiny with the equally crushing chaos of high school and young adulthood. The series masterfully uses monster-of-the-week horror as a lens for real emotional stakes, building toward apocalyptic seasonal arcs that grow darker and more complex with each passing year. Equal parts scary, funny, and genuinely moving, it remains a landmark of genre television.
