The premise
When tragedy strikes his remarkable robot and the beautiful girl next door, lonely teenage genius Paul tries to save them by pushing technology beyond its known limits into a terrifying new realm.
Horror Vault's take
A teenage prodigy moves to a new town with his prized AI robot, forming an unlikely bond with the girl next door — until a violent turn of events pushes him to attempt the unthinkable. Blending science fiction ambition with raw horror instincts, the film explores what happens when a brilliant but desperate young mind refuses to accept loss. What follows is a spiraling nightmare where the line between technology and humanity dissolves in deeply disturbing ways. Director Wes Craven delivers a film that is equal parts heartfelt and shocking, remembered for some of the most outrageous set pieces of 1980s horror.
