The premise
Hyakkimaru, a warrior on a quest to reclaim 48 of his body parts which were each taken by a demon, is joined by Dororo, a thief on a quest to avenge the death of her parents.
Horror Vault's take
Based on the classic manga by Osamu Tezuka, this live-action Japanese dark fantasy follows Hyakkimaru, a swordsman born into a cursed existence — his body parts bartered away to 48 demons before he ever drew breath. Armed with blades and an iron will, he carves a brutal path through a demon-haunted land to reclaim what was stolen from him. Along the way, he crosses paths with Dororo, a scrappy young thief driven by her own thirst for justice, and the two forge an unlikely alliance. The film blends visceral sword-fighting action with a haunting meditation on what it truly means to be human.
