The premise
An ever evolving alien life-form arrives on a comet from the Dark Gaseous Nebula and proceeds to consume pollution. Spewing mists of sulfuric acid and corrosive sludge, neither humanity nor Godzilla may be able to defeat this toxic menace.
Horror Vault's take
From the depths of a polluted sea rises Hedorah — an extraterrestrial organism that feeds on mankind's own toxic waste and grows more monstrous with every belch of smog and chemical runoff. This late-Showa Godzilla entry takes a jarring detour into countercultural, almost avant-garde horror territory, blending kaiju spectacle with a genuinely disturbing vision of ecological collapse. Acid rain dissolves flesh, cities choke under corrosive smog, and even the King of Monsters struggles against an enemy humanity essentially created itself. Few entries in the franchise carry this much genuine unease alongside their monster-brawl spectacle.
