The premise
A century-old vampire from New Orleans reunites with an ailing journalist to recount his life of bloodlust and his tumultuous relationship with the rakish Frenchman who turned him.

Spanning decades of decadence and devastation, this lavish adaptation follows a Black vampire reflecting on his centuries-long existence from the gaslit streets of early twentieth-century New Orleans to a haunting present-day reunion with the journalist who first heard his story. At its heart is a volatile, consuming relationship between a newly-turned man and the charismatic, dangerous vampire who made him — a bond equal parts passion and poison. The series leans into psychological complexity and queer romance without softening the darkness lurking beneath the beauty.
