The premise

A woman’s lover and her ex-boyfriend take justice into their own hands after she becomes the victim of a rapist. Because some acts can’t be undone. Because man is an animal. Because the desire for vengeance is a natural impulse. Because most crimes remain unpunished.

Horror Vault's take

Told in reverse chronological order, Gaspar Noé's unflinching provocation follows two men consumed by rage as they hunt down the person responsible for a savage attack on a woman they both love. The film's fractured timeline transforms a visceral revenge story into something far more devastating — a meditation on how a single night can obliterate everything that came before it. Shot with a disorienting, relentless camera, it pushes viewers to the absolute edge of endurance. Few films in the New French Extremism movement have left as lasting or as uncomfortable a mark.

Content: Graphic Sexual Violence, Prolonged Depiction Of Rape, Extreme Graphic Violence, Gore, Homophobic Slurs And Imagery, Strobing/Disorienting Cinematography, Deeply Distressing Content Throughout
