The premise

Author and amateur astronomer John Putnam and schoolteacher Ellen Fields witness an enormous meteorite come down near a small town in Arizona. Putnam becomes a local object of scorn when, after examining the object up close, he announces that it is a spacecraft, and that it is inhabited...

Horror Vault's take

When a blazing object crashes in the Arizona desert, amateur astronomer John Putnam is convinced it is no meteorite — and that something unearthly has crawled out of the wreckage. As townsfolk begin acting strangely and Putnam's warnings fall on hostile ears, the line between rational fear and dangerous paranoia starts to blur. Set against the sun-scorched Southwest landscape, this early-50s sci-fi chiller taps into the era's deep anxieties about the alien and the unknowable. Whether the visitors mean harm or simply want to be left alone is a question the film keeps disturbingly open.
