The premise

After notorious New Orleans gangster J.D. Walker is murdered in the 1940s, his spirit remains restless for three decades, until a hypnotist's supernatural nightclub act allows him to take over the body of a mild-mannered law student and seek revenge on those who had him killed.

Horror Vault's take

A promising law student in 1970s New Orleans finds his quiet life violently unraveling after a hypnotist's act cracks him open to something ancient and malevolent — the restless spirit of a murdered 1940s gangster with a decades-old score to settle. As the possessing force tightens its grip, the line between the student and his sinister passenger dissolves in disturbing ways. Rooted firmly in the blaxploitation tradition, the film blends period atmosphere, supernatural dread, and raw urban grit into a revenge tale that operates on both the living and the dead. Glynn Turman's committed performance anchors the increasingly volatile transformation at the film's core.
