The premise
The arrival of a newborn girl causes the gradual disintegration of the Cairn family; particularly for 9-year-old Joshua, an eccentric boy whose proper upbringing and refined tastes both take a sinister turn.

When a new baby arrives in the Cairn household, the family's carefully maintained veneer of upper-middle-class normalcy begins to crack. At the center of it all is nine-year-old Joshua — precocious, eerily composed, and increasingly difficult to read. Sam Rockwell and Vera Farmiga deliver quietly devastating performances as parents struggling to hold themselves together while their gifted son seems to be pulling invisible strings. This is a slow-burn chamber piece that weaponizes domestic discomfort into something genuinely chilling.
