The premise
A demented nun sliding through morphine addiction into madness, while presiding over a regime of lesbianism, torture and death. Sister Gertrude is the head nurse/nun in a general hospital, whose increasingly psychotic behavior endangers the staff and patients around her.

In this late-70s Italian exploitation shocker, a senior nun and head nurse begins a slow, harrowing unraveling as morphine addiction erodes her sanity and her vows. Sister Gertrude's authority over a hospital ward becomes a vehicle for cruelty, as the line between caregiver and predator dissolves entirely. Equal parts psychological character study and lurid genre exercise, the film weaponizes its convent setting to probe forbidden desires and institutional rot. Anchored by a fearless lead performance, it earned its place among the era's most controversial video nasties.
