The premise
Tomiko falls in love with Niitaka, even though she also suspects him of being the Tokyo bus driver serial killer, who killed his female conductors after tiring of them.

A young woman working as a bus conductor finds herself drawn into a consuming romance with her driver — a man she has every reason to fear. Sion Sono's 1997 film wraps a serial-killer premise in a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere where love and dread become nearly indistinguishable. The result is a slow-burn psychological study of a woman caught between her heart and her survival instincts. Seductive and suffocating in equal measure, it lingers long after the credits roll.
