Deep in the Philippine rain forest, an oil prospector finds himself at the mercy of a primitive cannibal tribe — and must fight through treacherous jungle terrain to stay alive and find a way home. Director Ruggero Deodato delivers an uncompromising Italian exploitation survival ordeal that places its protagonist squarely at the bottom of the food chain. The lush, hostile wilderness is as much an antagonist as the tribe itself, with wildlife encounters and physical hardship piling on the dread. It stands as one of the more viscerally punishing entries in the 1970s cannibal cycle.
