Within the shadowed corridors of an aging Italian mansion, a series of inexplicable occurrences begin to unnerve its inhabitants. Something lurks above — sealed away in the attic — and the dread of what it might be slowly consumes everyone beneath that roof. Set against a richly Gothic backdrop evoking the canals and crumbling grandeur of Venice, this 1977 Italian chiller builds its tension through atmosphere and mystery rather than outright shock. Gassman and Deneuve anchor a brooding ensemble as the mansion's dark secret edges ever closer to the surface.
