After cheating death in a near-fatal overdose, a woman finds herself plagued by a strange and worsening affliction that drives her back to the childhood home she long escaped. What she expects to be a reckoning with her past becomes something far more sinister lurking beneath the surface of domestic familiarity. The English countryside setting lends the film a creeping, folk-inflected dread as buried secrets refuse to stay buried. Kate Dickie anchors the terror with an intensity that makes every scene at home feel deeply wrong.
