The premise
In a contemporary New York City, members of a dysfunctional family of vampires are trying to come to terms with each other, in the wake of their father's death. Meanwhile, they are being hunted by Dr. Van Helsing and his hapless nephew. As in all good vampire movies, forces of love are pitted against forces of destruction.
Horror Vault's take
Set against the rain-slicked streets of 1990s New York City, Nadja reimagines vampire mythology through an intimate, art-house lens. When a powerful vampire patriarch dies, his fractured family must reckon with old wounds, tangled loyalties, and dangerous desires. All the while, the legendary Van Helsing and his bumbling nephew close in — turning the hunters-and-hunted dynamic into something far more emotionally complex than a simple chase. Shot in stark black-and-white, the film finds unexpected poetry in immortality's loneliest corners.
