The premise

A ragtag group barricade themselves in an old Pennsylvania farmhouse to remain safe from a horde of flesh-eating ghouls ravaging the Northeast.

Horror Vault's take

When the dead begin rising and attacking the living across the northeastern United States, a desperate handful of strangers take refuge in a remote Pennsylvania farmhouse. Trapped inside as the ghoulish horde closes in, the survivors must contend not only with the horrors outside the barricaded doors but with the fractures and desperation growing within their own group. George A. Romero's landmark 1968 film reinvented what horror cinema could say about society, delivering dread in stark black and white that still hits hard decades later. Few films have cast as long a shadow over an entire genre.
