The premise
Julia becomes worried about her boyfriend Holt when he explores the dark urban legend of a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after viewing. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a "movie within the movie" that no one has ever seen before.

When Julia's boyfriend goes silent after falling deep into a campus obsession surrounding a cursed videotape, she follows him into the darkness — and willingly puts her own life on the clock to pull him back. Her investigation into the tape's origins takes her further than any previous victim has ventured, unearthing a layer of the legend that has never surfaced before. Samara's reach feels older and stranger than anyone imagined, and the closer Julia gets to the truth, the more the curse seems to know her. This third chapter in the American Ring saga pushes its mythology into new and disturbing territory.
