The premise
An American doctor encounters members of a voodoo cult when she is summoned to Jamaica to treat a wealthy man's brother.

When an American doctor is called to a lush Jamaican estate to tend to a mysteriously ailing man, she finds herself drawn into a world far beyond medicine. The island's shadows conceal a voodoo cult whose influence reaches deeper than she could have imagined. Steeped in the Val Lewton tradition of suggestion over shock, Ritual trades cheap scares for creeping unease and tropical menace. What begins as a straightforward medical visit slowly unravels into something far more dangerous and strange.
