The premise
Anthropology professor Michal develops two overwhelming obsessions. The first one is a mummified, 3,000 year-old, perfectly preserved body of a shaman he and his colleagues have recently dragged out of a swamp. The second is an enigmatic student he meets by chance at a railway station.

When a Polish anthropology professor unearths a miraculously preserved 3,000-year-old shaman from a swamp, his academic world begins to fracture under the weight of two consuming fixations. A mysterious young woman enters his life with an almost supernatural magnetism, and the boundary between scholarly fascination and dangerous possession of the mind starts to dissolve. Director Andrzej Żuławski brings his trademark intensity to this fever-dream of desire and ancient darkness, blurring the line between archaeology and something far more primal. What sleeps inside old bones — and old hungers — may not stay dormant for long.
