The premise

Volcanic activity frees giant scorpions from the earth who wreak havoc in the rural countryside and eventually threaten Mexico City.

Horror Vault's take

When a volcanic eruption tears open the Mexican landscape, something ancient and enormous crawls out from beneath the earth. Giant scorpions — and the nightmarish creatures that share their subterranean lair — begin terrorizing remote villages, and it falls to a pair of geologists to uncover the full scale of the threat before it reaches a major city. Classic 1950s creature-feature energy drives every set piece, with practical stop-motion monster effects that still impress fans of the era. The stakes escalate steadily from rural dread to full-scale urban catastrophe.
