When a spirited divorcee snaps up a rambling historic property with dreams of turning it into a hotel, she quickly discovers that the previous owner and his peculiar associates have been up to some very unusual business in the cellar. Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre headline this wartime screwball horror-comedy, delivering deadpan comic chemistry in a film more interested in laughs than genuine scares. It's a breezy, fast-moving romp that leans hard into its absurdity and the star power of its leads.
