When residents of a quiet Iowa town begin exhibiting shockingly violent and erratic behavior, the local sheriff and his wife find themselves racing to survive as both their neighbors and powerful outside forces close in around them. This remake of George Romero's 1973 cult classic updates the premise with slick production values and a punishing pace that keeps the tension wound tight from the opening act. The threat here is as much institutional as it is personal — safety is an illusion, and no one can be fully trusted. It's a siege thriller wrapped in an infectious-outbreak nightmare.
