The premise

Deep within the darkness of secluded forest land in rural Ireland dwells an ancient evil. Feared by the nearby superstitious villagers as cursed creatures who prey upon the lost, their secrets have been kept from civilization and remain on their hallowed ground. But when a conservationist from London moves in with his wife and infant child in order to survey the land for future construction, his actions unwittingly disturb the horde of demonic forces. Alone in a remote wilderness, he must now ensure his family's survival from their relentless attacks.

Horror Vault's take

When a London conservationist relocates his young family to a remote corner of rural Ireland to survey woodland for development, he quickly discovers the locals' warnings about the surrounding forest are rooted in something far older and far more dangerous than superstition. Drawing on Irish folklore of creatures that guard their hallowed ground with savage ferocity, the film builds a suffocating sense of dread as the family finds themselves cut off, outmatched, and hunted. Director Corin Hardy blends visceral creature horror with a deeply unsettling folkloric mythology, making the dark between the trees feel genuinely alive. It is a film that earns its scares through atmosphere as much as its monsters.
