The premise

A research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.

Horror Vault's take

Deep in the Antarctic winter, a remote research outpost becomes a killing ground when a discovered alien organism reveals a terrifying ability — it can perfectly replicate any living thing it encounters. Director John Carpenter crafts a masterclass in mounting dread as the crew of Kurt Russell and company struggle to determine who among them is still human. With nowhere to run and no one to trust, the film weaponises isolation and paranoia as effectively as any creature on screen. Its practical effects remain some of the most viscerally unsettling ever committed to film.
