The premise

The Katakuri family has just opened their guest house in the mountains. Unfortunately their first guest commits suicide and in order to avoid trouble they decide to bury him in the backyard. Things get way more complicated when their second guest, a famous sumo wrestler, dies while having sex with his underage girlfriend and the grave behind the house starts to fill up more and more.

Horror Vault's take

The Katakuri family pins their hopes on a remote mountain guest house, only for their dreams to unravel in spectacularly grim fashion when guests keep turning up dead under increasingly outrageous circumstances. Rather than call the authorities, the family opts for increasingly creative — and increasingly desperate — solutions that test every bond they share. Director Takashi Miike injects the mayhem with musical numbers, stop-motion interludes, and gleeful bad taste that defy easy categorisation. It is equal parts family melodrama and gleefully unhinged horror comedy.
