The premise
Trying to escape her broken past, Sarah O’Neill is building a new life on the fringes of a backwood rural town with her young son Chris. A terrifying encounter with a mysterious neighbour shatters her fragile security, throwing Sarah into a spiralling nightmare of paranoia and mistrust, as she tries to uncover if the disturbing changes in her little boy are connected to an ominous sinkhole buried deep in the forest that borders their home.

A mother and her young son attempt to start fresh in a remote Irish town, but their fragile new life is upended when a strange encounter with a reclusive neighbour sets off a creeping sense that something is deeply wrong with her child. Director Lee Cronin builds a slow-burn atmosphere of dread rooted in the primal fear of not recognising your own flesh and blood. The looming presence of a vast sinkhole in the surrounding forest adds an elemental, unknowable menace to the unravelling domestic horror. Anchored by a raw and committed central performance, this is Irish folk horror at its most suffocating.
