The premise
A deep sea submersible pilot revisits his past fears in the Mariana Trench, and accidentally unleashes the seventy foot ancestor of the Great White Shark believed to be extinct.

When a deep-sea research mission into the unexplored depths of the Mariana Trench goes catastrophically wrong, something ancient and enormous follows the crew back to the surface. A retired rescue diver with a complicated history is pulled back into action when a seventy-foot prehistoric megalodon begins terrorizing open waters. Part creature-feature spectacle, part survival thriller, The Meg pits a wisecracking Jason Statham against one of nature's most terrifying what-ifs. The ocean has never felt quite this unsafe.
