The premise

A burned-out New York police detective teams up with a college psychoanalyst to track down a vicious serial killer randomly stalking and killing various young women around the city.

Horror Vault's take

Set against the seedy backdrop of early-1980s New York City, Lucio Fulci's notorious giallo follows a weary homicide detective and a criminal psychoanalyst racing to unmask a sadistic killer preying on women across the five boroughs. The film plunges deep into the grimy underbelly of the city, blending procedural investigation with Fulci's trademark unflinching brutality. Fans of Italian genre cinema will recognise the stylised set-pieces and escalating dread that made this one of the director's most controversial entries. Be warned: this is not a film that pulls its punches.
