Equal parts shrewd satire and genuine slasher, the film skewers genre conventions while still delivering the goods — blood, dread, and a surprisingly sharp feminist edge. Directed by a woman and written by a woman, it stands apart from its contemporaries as both a product of and a pointed commentary on early-80s horror excess.
